Letter from the Department Chair
Dear Students in the 2+2 Program:
I am writing to introduce myself and to provide some information about the Radford University 2+2 program in criminal justice offered at Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke.
Our program in criminal justice is one of the oldest in the state of Virginia. Radford graduates work in agencies at the local, state, and federal level as well as in non-profit organizations and private industry. A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice prepares you for both exciting new career possibilities or for advancement in your current employment.
As you know, through the 2+2 program Radford University offers a unique opportunity for students to complete a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in Roanoke. We typically offer two classes each term and at least two in the summer. (See the anticipated course schedule.) These courses are scheduled on a regular two-year rotation to provide all required classes and a variety of criminal justice electives. If you wish to enroll in a more ambitious schedule, you may also take elective courses from other Radford University programs or appropriate classes at Virginia Western.
Sometimes scheduling can be a problem, especially for students who are trying to balance responsibilities for work and/or family along with attending college. Both Dr. Egan Green, who is coordinator for the criminal justice program at VWCC and I, as department chair, will be willing to meet with you for academic advising. If you have questions about transferring classes, meeting requirements, or scheduling, please contact one of us at matwell@radford.edu or ekgreen@radford.edu
We look forward to working with you.
Dr. Mary Atwell
Professor and Chair
